CEO Update – 20th March 2018

Dear Members,

This week I write this from the deck of the Eco Abrolhos cruise ship as we cruise through the Houtman Abrolhos Islands. My now yearly visit reminds me once again of the absolute huge tourism potential this area has.

Tuesday saw our first “Glen’s Coffee Catch Up”. A big thank you to Redink Homes Midwest for hosting this event at their showroom in Marine Terrace, it was well attended with many new faces and we look forward to catching up again next month. This is a great meet up and information sharing forum, thanks to Gavin Treasure and Todd West from the MWDC and to Trish Palmonari from Progress Mid West for the updates on what’s happening and in development around the region.

Mid West Sports Commission continue with their project of discovery and ways to encourage ‘sports tourism’ and the potential is could add to our region both cultural and economic benefit. This year long project will deliver some great outcomes. Another area of tourism potential.

The Business Excellence Awards nominations for business categories have now closed, however the customer service nominations are still open for both company and individual nominees. So, if you have experienced exceptional customer service from one of our local business’s please call the chamber and nominate them from recognition.

This week coming, we have the Business After Hours being hosted by Market Creations and The Broadwater. It is Thursday evening at 5.30pm at the Multi User Centre. We have a special guest for the evening being the new CEO of CCIWA Mr Chris Rodwell. Chris has recently taken the role, and this is his first regional trip. So, come along on this Thursday evening and meet him, he has had an interesting and varied career with roles representing Australia in export development.

I am also pleased to advise of our first LAW lunch for 2018 on 6th April at 12.30pm. This will be held at the Broadie and will be showcasing Angove wines. Tickets are $85 per head, reservation of your place is essential, so ring the chamber today and confirm you are coming.

On closing I remind you only two weeks till Easter, so no eating too many hot cross buns or chocolate eggs before the official celebration and see you all on Thursday night.

Cheers,
Glen Whistler-Carr
